MSITM Rankings & Methodology

MSITM / Information Systems Rankings: Compare the Category Before the Number

There is no single third-party ranking that cleanly covers every degree in the MSITM family. Programs use different titles, sit in different academic units and can appear in business-school Information Systems specialties, standalone Information Systems Management lists, public-affairs technology-management rankings, analytics rankings or online-program rankings.

MSITM.com does not merge those unlike categories into one prestige score. Instead, we map each external ranking to the exact school/program it actually measures.

U.S. News: April 2026 graduate-business Information Systems specialty

MSITM.com has now matched all 50 current profiles against the April 2026 U.S. News graduate-business Information Systems specialty table, while preserving academic-unit differences instead of automatically assigning a university-wide rank to every degree.

  • 28 profiles: the ranked business-school specialty is housed in or closely aligned with the program we profile.
  • 9 profiles: the university appears in the ranking, but the ranked business school is a different academic unit from the profiled degree.
  • 13 profiles: no April 2026 business-school Information Systems specialty listing was identified.

Examples of aligned signals include UT Austin (#1), Kelley and Maryland (#8), UT Dallas and Arizona (#11), Georgia State (#15), Florida (#21), Rutgers (#26), Texas A&M (#29), Temple (#32), and George Washington/Houston (#34). These are business-school Information Systems specialty signals; they should not automatically be described as rankings of the exact master’s degree.

Eduniversal 2026 Information Systems Management

Eduniversal publishes a U.S. Information Systems Management master’s list. MSITM.com uses it as a secondary external signal only when the listed degree directly matches the program profile.

We identified 12 direct program matches, including UC Berkeley MIMS (#3): Carnegie Mellon MISM (#5), Texas A&M MS MIS (#7), UT Dallas ITM (#10), Cincinnati Information Systems (#11), Kelley MSIS (#16), Florida MSISOM (#17), George Washington MSIST (#21), Rutgers MITA (#23), Georgia State MSIS (#28), UT Arlington MSIS (#32), and FIU MSIS (#37).

Ranking categories we intentionally keep separate

Ranking type Why it can be useful Why MSITM.com does not substitute it for a degree ranking
U.S. News business Information Systems specialty Business-school reputation/discipline signal Usually ranks a specialty/academic unit, not the standalone master’s degree.
U.S. News Public Affairs – Information & Technology Management Relevant for public-policy/management technology programs such as Carnegie Mellon Heinz A different academic discipline and ranking universe from graduate business.
U.S. News MBA specialty rankings Can indicate department/business-school strength An MBA specialty is not an MSIS/MSITM degree.
Business Analytics rankings Useful for analytics-specific programs Analytics overlaps with IS but is not interchangeable with broad technology management.
Online-program rankings Can speak to delivery reputation May rank an online category or institution rather than the exact degree.

What about QS?

QS’s 2026 specialized Business Master’s rankings cover categories including Business Analytics, Finance, Management, Marketing and Supply Chain Management, but not an Information Systems Management master’s category. MSITM.com therefore does not transfer a QS Business Analytics rank onto an MSITM/MSIS profile simply because the curricula overlap.

MSITM.com editorial comparisons are different from third-party rankings

MSITM.com uses verified program-level data to help students compare specific decisions. Current comparison layers include:

  • AI exposure — an editorial curriculum classification, not a prestige ranking.
  • Published career outcomes — compares evidence quality and methodology rather than rewarding the biggest salary headline.
  • Cost-conscious options — compares published cost signals with residency/modality context rather than declaring one universal “cheapest” program.
  • Career-changer fit — compares prerequisites and bridge pathways.
  • Working-professional fit — compares format/pacing rather than school prestige.

No overall 1-to-50 ranking yet

MSITM.com is not currently publishing a single 1-to-50 overall ranking. The database now has researched cost, application timing, preparation/prerequisites and career evidence for all 50 profiles, but many schools still report those fields using different methodologies. A transparent category comparison is more defensible than forcing unlike data into one composite score.

If an overall scoring model is introduced later, the methodology, source fields, missing-data treatment and update date should be published alongside it.
