MSITM Cost & Admissions Comparison
Tuition and admissions policies vary almost as much as the curricula. A 10-month residential degree has a very different cost structure from a two-year or online program, and standardized-test policies have changed substantially since the original version of MSITM.com launched.

Admissions trends in 2026
The biggest change from the old MSITM.com admissions guidance is standardized testing. A blanket claim that competitive applicants need a 700+ GMAT or 325+ GRE is no longer defensible. UT Austin, Indiana Kelley, Rutgers and Georgia State currently allow applicants to apply without GMAT/GRE scores, while Arizona’s residential MS MIS still requires a test score. Policies can differ even between residential and online versions of the same degree.
Technical prerequisites matter more than the degree name
- UT Austin: expects demonstrated programming and database-management skills; most current students come from CS, information systems or engineering backgrounds.
- Rutgers: expects basic calculus and statistics but welcomes applicants from business, IT, computer science, industrial engineering and related fields.
- Indiana Kelley: welcomes applicants from varied academic backgrounds and offers prerequisite / Jumpstart pathways for students who need additional preparation.
- Arizona Eller: describes MIS as broader than programming, but its residential program still evaluates applicants through GPA, GMAT/GRE and the complete application.

How to compare true cost
Sticker tuition is only one piece of ROI. For each program, add mandatory fees + living expenses + health insurance + books/technology + foregone earnings, then subtract scholarships or assistantships. An accelerated program can cost more per month but reduce the time you are out of the workforce.
Before you apply
- Verify the program’s current deadline; international deadlines are often earlier.
- Confirm whether prerequisites must be completed before applying or before enrollment.
- Check whether a test-optional applicant remains eligible for scholarships or assistantships.
- For international applicants, confirm STEM designation, English-proficiency requirements and in-person enrollment rules.
- Do not compare tuition figures from different academic years without adjusting for the published year.
Tuition figures above were taken from official university pages and reviewed in September 2026. They are estimates or published rates, not guarantees, and generally exclude living expenses.
